Ricing

On October 7th, Cathy Chavers came to the school and talked to the 5th and 6th graders about rice processing. We learned that ricing season varies in Nett Lake. It depends on when the rice is ripe. When it is ripe, it is called green rice.
The wild rice only grows in Minnesota and Wisconsin. This year, however, Nett Lake couldn't rice because the rice didn't grow. Normally our community collects around 5000 pounds of rice. That amounts to about half as much after it's processed.
